Entry No. 1 - The Purpose

As with all decisions we make in life, there is a purpose behind them. And becoming an artist also has its purpose. Whether it’s to master a craft, find ways of expression, or simply enjoy the process of creating. No matter how simple or complicated our goals may be, I believe it’s often the not giving up on our initial purpose that makes each artist’s journey and work unique.

As well as enjoying the process of making ceramics, I also love using this medium as a portal for self-expression - thoughts and views that may be better understood with visuals, or through a creative process. And for this reason, I believe ceramics will be a lifetime craft I could see myself growing old with.

There is often so much more to my thoughts. Some of them can be represented through a ceramic piece, but sometimes they can come in the form of observations from events and moments in the studio, a thought provoked by a making or learning process, or meaningful encounters with fellow makers.

As I embark on this journey of sharing more of my perspective, I’ve noticed that social media platforms may not be the best place for them. Therefore, A Potter’s Diary was born. And whether you’ve encountered my ceramics on social media, visited my stall at a market, or if we know each other personally, everyone is welcome here.

With an average grade in English Literature back at school, I never thought I would have developed an interest for writing today. But surprises are one of the reasons why life is beautiful.

I believe that A Potter’s Diary will lead me to discover other sides of myself that have yet to be discovered - a documentary of growth alongside a craft for life. And if you wish to follow me on this journey, I hope you enjoy your time here. I hope that through A Potter’s Diary, you will be able to learn more about me, maybe gain a different perspective on things, or simply enjoy reading my grammatically bad, but genuine writing.
